THE SIGNUM FOUNDATION AT THE INTERNATIONAL FORUM FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IN VENICE AND THE WORKING MEETING OF THE ORGANIZERS OF THE FILM AND PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION ON ECOLOGICAL ISSUES
03.10.2009
The Foundation participated in an international Forum for environmental protection, "Health of the Planet Earth and Mankind. Environmental disasters: irresponsibility and protection" organized by the International Academy of Environmental Sciences (IAES) based in Venice. The goal of the Forum was to discuss the establishment of an international and European Criminal Court of Justice for crimes committed against the environment.
The Forum was held under the auspices of and with the participation of representatives of governments from all over the world, as well as lawyers, scientists and Nobel Peace Prize laureates. Ecology is in this respect perceived as one dimension of human rights, and crimes against the environment are compared to crimes against humanity.
The Signum Foundation participated in the cultural programme of the Forum inviting Shirin Ebadi, the Nobel Peace Prize winner for 2003 and the representatives of IAES to the Palazzo Donà for a working meeting connected with the prospect of cooperation in organizing a film and photography competition related to ecological issues.
